Suppose you have x2−4=0x^2 - 4 = 0 , how you would solve xx for by factorisation.

Factor the expressions on the LHS

(x−2)(x+2)=0(x - 2)(x + 2) = 0

Break down the equation into 2 and each side equate it to 00.

x−2=0x - 2 = 0 or x+2=0x + 2 = 0

∴\therefore x=2x = 2 oror x=−2x = -2

Note : LHS = LEFT HAND SIDE
